ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Space Agency announced its plan to launch the multi-mission communications satellite PAKSAT MM1 from China next week, describing the move as a “highlight of technical cooperation” between the two countries.
As per the media reports, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPERCO) now plans to launch the PAKSAT MM1 communication satellite with Chinese assistance on May 30.
Sparco said that PAKSAT MM1 has been designed to meet the growing communication and connectivity needs of the country. It is expected that this satellite will play an important role in the socio-economic development of Pakistan due to its advanced communication technology.
Earlier this month, the Pakistani satellite iCUBE-Qamar (ICUBE Q) was launched from Hainan, China, on China’s Chang’e 6 lunar mission. This major milestone in Pakistan’s space exploration efforts saw the satellite successfully enter lunar orbit on May 8, and soon after, it began transmitting the first images from lunar orbit.

Furthermore, the statement highlighted that communication satellites will be a major step in transforming the country into a “digital Pakistan.” The launch event will be telecast live from Sparco offices in Islamabad and Karachi.
Established in 1961, SPARCO manages Pakistan’s space program, enhancing the country’s capabilities in satellite communications, remote sensing, and meteorological science.
