KARACHI: Veteran radio, television, stage, and film actor Talat Hussain passed away in Karachi after a prolonged illness at the age of 83 on Sunday.
Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP) Karachi President Ahmed Shah confirmed the development about the actor’s death adding that the actor had long been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Karachi.
In a statement, Shah recalled that the actor had a “deep connection” with ACP as he had remained a part of its governing body. “An acclaimed actor like Talat Hussain is born after centuries,” he said.
Speaking to a private TV Channel, Ahmed Shah said, “It is a very unbelievable situation. Mr Talat was a member of the Arts Council and also remained its vice-president. He was a man of literature as most of his life he would read and write books. He was not only an actor but also an amazing human.”

State broadcaster PTV also confirmed his demise in a post on social media platform X.
Talat Hussain was born on September 18, 1940, in Delhi, India, studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and began his artistic career in the 1960s. He had a decades-long career in acting, singing, and arts. He also worked for some time for the BBC in London.
His popular plays include Bandish, Karvaan, Hawain, and Parachaiyan with multiple films including Chirag Jalta Raha, Gumnam, Baaghi, and Actor in Law. His work in dramas continued with the famous “Arjumand” in 1970 on PTV, Ansoo, Bandish, Des Pardes, Tariq Bin Ziad, Eid ka Jora, and Fanooni Latifey.
Talat Hussain also acted in several foreign films, television drama serials, and long dramas, including Channel Four’s television serials such as Traffic and Family Pride.

Hussain was awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) in 2021 and the Pride of Performance Award in 1982 by the government of Pakistan.
In recognition of his work, Talat was also awarded Amanda Award in 2006 for best supporting actor in the Norwegian film “Import Eksport” and Nigar Award in 1986 for best-supporting actor in the film “Miss Bangkok”.
PM expresses Condolences
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his heartfelt grief and sorrow over the demise of Talat Hussain, a veteran film, TV, and radio artist.
In a message, the prime minister prayed to Allah Almighty to elevate the ranks of the departed soul in paradise and courage to the bereaved family members to bear this loss with equanimity.
He said Talat Hussain was a legendary actor whose dialogue delivery was well-known to an era. The prime minister said Talat Hussain’s lively acting skills won the hearts of drama and film fans worldwide. “May Allah grant the deceased a high rank in Jannat ul Firdaus,” he prayed.
Acting President Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani also expressed deep sorrow and grief over the demise of renowned artist Talat Hussain.
Late Talat Hussain’s invaluable contributions to the arts will always be remembered, the acting president said in a message.
He prayed to Allah Almighty to grant the departed soul a high rank in paradise and courage to the bereaved family members to bear this loss with patience.
