ISLAMABAD: The prices of all brands of ghee have been further reduced in Pakistan amid to provide relief to the people suffering from inflation, here on Monday.
As per the details, State-run Utility Stores Corporation (USC) reduced the prices of ghee by Rs 18 per kg across Pakistan.
In a statement, the spokesperson said that utility stores announced a reduction in the price of subsidized ghee by Rs 18 per kg for families registered under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).
For BISP beneficiaries, ghee will now be available at Rs 375 per kg, down from Rs 393 per kg.
Meanwhile, the price cut will also benefit the common consumer, with ghee now available at Rs 445 per kg, down from Rs 463.
Prior to this reduction, the prices of these commodities at USC outlets and the open market had a negligible difference, which led to public criticism of the government and the corporation’s management.
According to a report by a private news channel, USC outlets were charging Rs 860 more than the fixed rate for a 20 kg bag of flour.
A 20 kg bag of wheat flour is being sold at outlets for Rs 2,840 while the same bag can be bought at markets for Rs 1,980.
Sella rice was available in the market at Rs 314 per kg but is priced at Rs 345 per kg at utility stores. Utility stores were charging Rs 31 per kg more.
Similarly, sugar is being sold at 155 rupees at utility stores, while essential items can be bought at 144 rupees from the market.
The consumption of cooking oil and ghee in Pakistan stands out compared to other nations due to the country’s large population and diverse culinary preferences.
Factors such as population growth, dietary habits, urbanization, and rising disposable income contribute to significant oil consumption, influencing prices in the market. Importantly, the oil market relies heavily on imported palm oil, with local sources accounting for less than 20% of total consumption.
Commonly used cooking oils in Pakistan include mustard oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, palm oil, and groundnut oil. Key players in the cooking oil industry in Pakistan include Mehran Cooking Oil, Dewan Vegetable Oil, National Foods Limited, Kisan Cooking Oil, Soya Supreme Cooking Oil, Saffola Cooking Oil, Canola Cooking Oil, and Sunflower Cooking Oil.
