KARACHI: There is a 14,300 security personnel shortfall in Karachi police, including female police officers, as political parties prepare for the next general elections.

The Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Karachi, Khadim Hussain Rind, announced that the city police had begun making watertight security measures for the upcoming elections in Karachi, which are scheduled for February 8.

“The election security plan requires over 46,076 police officers, but Karachi Police only have 31,776.” The required number of female police personnel is likewise not available,” said the AIG.

“We have 1,200 female staff, but at least 3,200 are needed for security procedures at women’s polling places. The KPO is short two thousand female officers. Eight police officers are needed for the most sensitive polling places, six for critical polling places, and four for regular polling places, following the security plan. Rind stated that 5,349 polling places in Karachi would be staffed by 35,544 people.

Additionally, the quick reaction team will be stationed at polling places. The plan also calls for the deployment of 3,892 QRF personnel for 2,774 buildings and the appointment of 4,210 police officers to reserve duty under the DIG’s direction.
