ISLAMABAD: In a surprising turn of events, the Government of Pakistan has misquoted and miscalculated the recent changes in petrol and diesel prices. Initial announcements from the Prime Minister’s Office claimed substantial reductions, which are still unclear, considering the issued notification.
According to reliable sources, the actual decrease in the price of petrol is significantly less than what was originally stated. The Prime Minister’s Office announced a reduction of PKR 15 per liter for petrol, but sources have now confirmed that the reduction is only PKR 4.74 per liter. Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel was initially declared to have been reduced by PKR 8 per liter, but the correct figure is a decrease of only PKR 3.86 per liter.
The miscommunication has caused confusion among the public, who were anticipating larger price cuts as per the initial announcement that was about Rs 15 drop in petrol price. The corrected prices are as follows:
– Petrol: Reduced by PKR 4.74 per liter
– High-Speed Diesel: Reduced by PKR 3.86 per liter
New Petrol, Diesel Rates for June 2024:
Products | Existing price | New price | Increase/Decrease |
MS (Petrol) | 273.10 | 268.3 | -4.74 |
High Speed Diesel (HSD) | 274.08 | 270.22 | -3.86 |
This discrepancy has raised questions about the accuracy and reliability of official announcements regarding fuel prices, highlighting the need for careful verification before public dissemination.
