ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has summoned PTI Chairman Gohar Khan, Secretary General Omar Ayub, and party spokesperson Raoof Hasan over the “anti-state social media post” from PTI founder Imran Khan’s X account.
In separate notices to the three leaders, the FIA has asked Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) bigwigs to appear in person before FIA Cybercrime Reporting Centre Sub-Inspector Muhammad Monib Zafar on Tuesday by 11 am for inquiry.
According to the FIA notice, “An inquiry has been initiated regarding misuse of verified X [Twitter] account of Mr. Imran Khan, Founder PTI through which highly obnoxious and inciting content against state institutions is shared which is likely to cause fear or alarm in the public and may induce/provoke anyone to commit an offense against the state or the state institution or public tranquillity.”
Furthermore, FIA directed the PTI leader to appear in person before the undersigned to record your version/statement in your defense at the FIA Cyber Crime Reporting Center.
A post on X, formerly Twitter, was attributed to the former prime minister, which said, “Every Pakistani should study the Hamood ur Rahman Commission Report and get to know who was the true traitor, General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.” The video showed former Bangladesh president Sheikh Mujeebur Rehman.
In response, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Wing on Thursday decided to initiate an inquiry against PTI Founder Imran Khan for the uploading of a propaganda post on the official X account featuring Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
According to FIA sources, the inquiry team is expected to question Imran Khan, Barrister Gohar, Omar Ayub, and Raoof Hasan confirming whether the video was tweeted by Khan himself or with his consent.
However, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan refused to answer any questions asked by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Adiala jail related to his controversial social media post on X, formerly Twitter.
An FIA cyber crime team reached Adiala jail late Thursday night to interrogate the former prime minister over his tweet, however, Khan refused to meet the team and become part of the investigation, said the sources.
Khan refused to answer any questions from the FIA team, said the sources. He added that he would answer any question in the presence of his lawyers.
