ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb said that the government has allocated Rs4 billion for electronic bikes (e-bikes) in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
While presenting the Federal Budget 2024-25 on Wednesday, the Finance Minister said that the main purpose of this initiative is to cut carbon emissions from the transport sector and increase energy consumption.
Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb said that Pakistan is facing adverse effects of climate change and the government is working on initiatives to promote climate change reduction efforts including the establishment of the Pakistan Climate Change Authority, which would be finished by October 2024.
The Finance Minister believes that this would help strategize on how the country could attract global climate finance, resulting in green programs to reduce carbon emissions.
Furthermore, the Minister announced that a national digital climate finance monitoring dashboard would be established to maintain data related to climate finance received from global financing facilities. This initiative is part of the government’s plans to stabilize and lay the groundwork for the economy’s recovery.
Climate experts believe that the government’s move to normalize and promote E-Bikes has the potential to improve the environment.
