ISLAMABAD: Over 1,200 people in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received emergency medical treatment for overeating, as the nation celebrated the festival with lavish feasts.
As per the details, Pakistanis celebrate Eid ul-Adha with celebrations lasting several days, and feasting on meat dishes is an important part of the occasion.
During the days of Eid, more than 1,200 people were reportedly hospitalized in the country’s most populous region of Punjab and the northeastern region of KP.
Reports indicate that more than 600 cases of gastroenteritis were reported in Peshawar on the second day of Eid, which is related to doctors eating too much meat.
Several hundred people were rushed to hospitals with diarrhea and abdominal pain. More than 130 patients were treated at Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital, while Services Hospital, Ganga Ram Hospital and Mayo Hospital saw more than 100 patients each.
Gastroenterologists urged the public to eat the sacrificial meat in moderation and avoid overeating during the celebrations.
