ISLAMABAD: Islamabad has initiated a trial service for electric buses, marking a significant move towards sustainable urban transport.
Buses traveling along feeder route number four, which connects PIMS Hospital to Quaid-e-Azam University, started operating the trial on Monday. These light blue, environmentally friendly buses travel every ten minutes, however, they are not currently accepting passengers.
Key landmarks along the route include Radio Colony, Satara Market, Melody, Aabpara, NADRA Chowk, and Serena Hotel. Quaid-e-Azam University serves as the route’s last terminus.
In keeping with the new fiscal year, the bus service will formally commence on July 1st. Until then, it will operate for free, after which a Rs. 50 price will be charged. Another route that goes to NUST University and serves the regions near Karachi Company, G-10, and G-11 Markezs has also started its trial run.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has a larger plan that includes this endeavor as well as the Green and Blue Line services that are now in use. Four of the 14 authorized feeder lines are in use at the moment.
These electric buses, of which thirty are already in Islamabad, are part of a delivery of 160 that were purchased from China. It is anticipated that this project will improve the convenience of commuting for locals, particularly women, senior persons, and students, while also reducing noise and pollution.
