ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday accepted apologies from Senator Faisal Vawda and MQM lawmaker Mustafa Kamal in a contempt of court case and withdrew notices used to them.
Three-member Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Irfan Saadat and Justice Naeem Afghan heard the contempt case. Faisal Vawda and Mustafa Kamal appeared before the court.
During the proceeding, Mustafa Kamal’s lawyer, Farogh Naseem, argued that Kamal had offered an unconditional apology and had expressed regret in a press conference.
According to the court’s order, both the parliamentarians — Senator Faisal Vawda and MNA Mustafa Kamal — have realized that the words they used were inappropriate.
On June 26, Senator Vawda submitted an apology to the apex court in a contempt of court case and in his written response expressed his utmost respect for the judiciary.
Earlier in May, both politicians had delivered strongly worded press conferences criticizing the judiciary. Vawda emphasized the necessity of evidence before leveling allegations, while Kamal aimed to establish ethical standards for judges, insisting that justice could “only be bought”.
Apart from that, the top court also issued a contempt notice to 34 TV channels for airing ‘anti-judiciary press conferences’ of Senator Faisal Vawda and MQM-P leader Mustafa Kamal.
