Lahore traffic police imposed heavy fines totaling Rs60.6 million and impounded over 33,000 smoke-emitting vehicles in a six-month-long smog remediation campaign, following the orders of the Lahore High Court.
The Lahore traffic police are strictly targeting vehicles that emit dangerous smoke, issuing heavy fines, and taking strong action against offenders.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Amara Athar, 15,701 vehicles have been impounded in various police stations and sectors due to hazardous smoke emissions.
Additionally, 8,427 vehicles received challan tickets specifically for emitting smoke, while 6,344 vehicles were fined for issues related to sand, mud, and dust emissions.
The crackdown also extended to vehicles without proper fitness certificates. A total of 14,255 vehicles in poor condition were fined, and 183 vehicles were stopped for possessing fake fitness certificates.
Moreover, the Lahore traffic police have taken a proactive approach to raising public awareness about smog prevention.
More than five hundred traffic awareness seminars have been held in government offices, bus stops, colleges, and schools.
A public outreach initiative has been started, utilizing social media to locate and respond to car reports that release smoke.
Amara Athar, the Chief Traffic Officer, emphasized the significance of community collaboration in eradicating pollution in urban environments.
She also exhorted people to work with government officials to make the environment healthier and cleaner for everybody.
