LAHORE: The Punjab government has given the green light to initiate action against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and other PTI leaders for spreading the anti-state narrative.
During the cabinet meeting, the Punjab cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the proposal to initiate criminal proceedings against Imran Khan and other PTI leaders under Section 196 of the Criminal Procedure Code 1898.
Punjab Home Department submitted an agenda item in a cabinet meeting requesting legal against Imran Khan and others citing the application forwarded by Commissioner Rawalpindi Division.
The provincial cabinet authorized the Additional Commissioner Coordination Office Rawalpindi, Syed Nazarat Ali to file a criminal complaint on behalf of the Provincial Government before the court of competent jurisdiction.
According to the document available with Daily Ausaf, former PM Imran Khan during his media talk in Adiala Jail leveled false and provocative allegations against senior officials of state institutions, including the Army and Judiciary.
Khan’s talks and allegations tend to persuade and incite the public at large to the extent of building a narrative of the disintegration of Pakistan by referring to East Pakistan incidents and by attempting to coincide the current state of affairs with that of East Pakistan in 1970-71, it added.
Imprisoned Imran Khan’s statements and media talks are aimed at inciting his workers against the state institutions for political gains.
The complaint also mentioned that Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar Ali Khan during media talk outside the jail, persuaded the same agenda while speaking to media outside Adiala jail after having a consultation with Imran inside the jail and reiterated the statement of Imran Khan.
According to the document, the cabinet members deliberated and concluded that Imran Ahmad Khan Niazi, in connivance with leaders of his party, is desperately involved in hatching plots against the state and has been persistently advocating the territorial disintegration of the state of Pakistan by consistently maligning the image of Pakistan Army and comparing the unfortunate disintegration of Pakistan in 1971 with that of current political scenario.
During the cabinet meeting, the Law Department recommended action under Section 108-A, or Section 153-A or Section 294-A, or Section 295-A or Section 505 of the same Code, unless upon complaint made by order of or under authority from, the Federal Government or the Provincial Government concerned, or some officer empowered in this behalf by either of the two Governments.
