LAHORE: Reports emerged that Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) banned green meters and mandated the replacement of these meters with Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters.
According to the media reports, orders have been issued to install Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters instead of bidirectional green meters.
LESCO was said to provide a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for the purchase of AMI meters for solar connections. The purchase of AMI meters will cost consumers the additional burden of Rs20,000.
However, the LESCO spokesman refuted the reports circulating on social media and other platforms regarding the ban on green electric meters.
In a media statement on Wednesday, the company said that it has not taken such a decision to ban the green meters, however, it added that the NOC of AMI meter would be issued instead of green meters.
He explained that installation of AMI meters would solve the problem of over-billing for consumers, besides helping in decreasing the incidence of power theft.
