LAHORE: The Punjab government has requested the deployment of military and paramilitary forces to assist the police in providing security for Muharram processions across the country, here on Thursday.
As per the details, the Punjab Home Department has sent a letter to the Ministry of Interior in which 150 companies of army and rangers have been called for security from 1st to 12th Muharram in various districts of the province.
The provincial government has called for 69 companies of army and 81 companies of rangers for deployment in Khat.
A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will be held in Quetta on July 6 (Saturday) to sight the moon of Muharram.
Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad will lead the meeting. In addition, the Zonal Committees of Ruet-e-Hilal will hold their meetings in the respective regions.
According to predictions, the holy month of Muharram in Pakistan is likely to start from July 8. Therefore, the tenth date of the month Ashura will be celebrated on July 17 in Pakistan.
If the moon is sighted on July 6, Ashura will be on July 16.
