ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister of Privatisation and Investment Board and Communications Abdul Aleem Khan instructed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to review the Sialkot-Rawalpindi Motorway and upgrade it from four lanes to six.
During a high-level meeting chaired by Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, it was decided to upgrade the Sialkot-Rawalpindi Motorway with long-term national needs rather than current demands alone.
A high-level National Highway Authority (NHA) meeting discussed the pace of work reviewed on various projects of the NHA in Balochistan, Sindh, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Furthermore, he directed the National Highway Authority to transform the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway into a barrier-free corridor. The meeting also discussed installing live surveillance cameras on all highways and construction projects so that this construction work can be monitored anywhere at any time.
Moreover, the federal minister directed the NHA to implement phase-wise construction of the Rs. 150 billion N25 highway in Baluchistan. He also instructed NHA to ensure third-party evaluation of repair projects of different roads so that the government funds are not wasted.
He said that highways and motorways are our national assets so future needs should be kept in view in the context of a growing population. He further said that we have to give priority to the construction of such roads which can benefit the country economically, as well.
