LAHORE: Heavy rainfall in Lahore broke a 44-year-old record after the provincial capital received as high as 35 millimeters of rain leaving the provincial capital drenched in water.
According to the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Lahore, 315 mm of rain has been recorded in the Tajpura area of the city which continued periodically throughout the day.
Earlier WASA announced that the recent spell had broken the 30-year rain record in Lahore which was later corrected to 44 years. WASA Managing Director Muhammad Ghufran confirmed that last year 291 mm of rain was recorded at the Lakshmi Chowk, which received 170 mm of rain this year.

Lahore’s Johar Town received 109 mm of rain, Qurtuba Chowk 152 mm, Jail Road 69 mm, Airport 85 mm, Lakshmi Chowk 170, Mughalpura 145 mm, Upper Mall 130 mm, and Gulshan-e-Ravi 151 mm. Apart from that, Nishtar Town received rainfall of 162mm, Chowk Nakhuda 155 mm, Paniwala Talab 151 mm, Farrukhabad 140 mm, Iqbal Town 152 mm, and Gulberg Town 105 mm.
Earlier in the day, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several other cities of the province received heavy rainfall with strong winds, causing problems for the residents.
Apart from Lahore, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi, Nikyal and Barnala areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gujranwala, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Sargodha, Pakpattan and their adjacent areas too experienced heavy downpour.
