ISLAMABAD: In another case of animal brutality, a man was arrested on the charge of chopping off a buffalo’s tongue for eating fodder from his loader rickshaw in Shahpur, Sargodha on Monday.
Police said that the accused Bilal was taking fodder in a loader rickshaw when a buffalo ate the fodder on the way, to which he cut off his tongue with a sickle, state-run APP reported.
The District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Asad Ejaz Malhi took notice of the incident and ordered the Station House Officer (SHO) Shahpur city police Safdar Iqbal to arrest the accused at the earliest.
Following the order, the police arrested the accused and started an investigation.
The incidents of animal cruelty caught the spotlight after last month’s incident when a local landlord in Sindh’s Sanghar district was accused of chopping off a camel’s leg after it strayed into his fields for grazing. As soon as the case was reported in the media, social media erupted for action against the accused and voiced a comprehensive policy to address acts of animal abuse.
In another incident in the Umerkot district of Sindh last month, a camel was found dead with its legs amputated.
