Election body: There has been no suggestion or thought given to changing the election date due to tensions between Iran and Pakistan.
ISLAMABAD : The government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) have stated that the tension between Iran and Pakistan will not impact the general elections scheduled for February 8 and its schedule.
In response to a question about whether the tension along Pakistan’s border with Iran will have an impact on the polls or the schedule, the ECP spokeswoman stated that the commission was committed to holding the elections on the designated day and as planned.
“The ECP is preoccupied with election preparations, and there has been no suggestion or thought given to changing the election date in light of the tensions between Iran and Pakistan.”

He declared, “We are operating normally and prepared to hold elections on February 8.”
When questioned, Information Minister Murtaza Solangi added that the polls will take place on schedule. According to him, the tension between Iran and Pakistan won’t have an impact on the elections’ timing.
The minister thought that things would now begin to calm down between Pakistan and Iran. He bemoaned the fact that some people, including those in the media, are attempting to postpone the polls, which Solangi promised would take place on February 8, by whatever means possible.

In response to a question concerning the security requirements for the polls, the minister of information stated that the government will give the ECP the necessary protection to ensure that the elections are held peacefully. The minister promised that there would be no turning back from the general elections on the scheduled date.
