LAHORE: The Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested Amin al-Haq, a close aide of Al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden, from Gujrat in an intelligence-based operation (IBO).
Addressing a press conference in Lahore on Friday, DIG CTD Usman Akram Gonadal said, the key Al-Qaeda terrorist was apprehended from the Sarai Alamgir area in Gujrat district on Thursday.
CTD officials said that the arrested terrorist was listed as the most wanted Al-Qaeda operative by the United States. Haq has also been designated as a terrorist by the United Nations.
“The CTD has launched an investigation into the matter, terming the arrest as a significant breakthrough,” DIG CTD Usman Akram Gondal added.
CTD noted that he was responsible for coordinating security for the deceased Al-Qaeda chief and was involved in several terrorist activities.
DIG CTD Usman Akram added that he was last seen in Afghanistan in 2021 and also has Pakistan’s ID Card with Lahore and Haripur addresses.
Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department has arrested a case against Amin al-Haq and a probe has been launched on what was a high-profile terrorist doing in Pakistan.
It is pertinent to mention that, United States SEALs in a raid on a compound in Abbottabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on May 2, 2011 shot dead al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden, who was the most wanted terrorist in the world owing to his involvement in the deadly 9/11 attacks.
