LAHORE: A prominent businessman Zulfiqar Ahmed, who was abducted in Karachi last week, reached his home safely in Lahore on Sunday.
Zulfiqar Ahmed, owner of the Paracha Textile Mills, Cola Next, and Mezan Group, allegedly went missing on July 23. His family said that eight unknown armed men abducted him in a double-cabin vehicle along with his friend Qaiser from Mari Road, Karachi. Qaiser was released shortly after.
Later on July 26, Kalri police registered a case against his unidentified abductors after reports emerged, citing his family that police refused to register an FIR against his abduction.
The DIG South Syed Asad Raza said police contacted his family who confirmed that Zulfiqar Ahmad reached home in Lahore. However, authorities lack information about his abductors or where he was kept during this period.
The industrialist’s lawyer Mian Ali Ashafq said Cola Next owner reached home without giving any ransom money to the kidnappers for his release.
On Thursday, the Sindh High Court (SHC) heard the petition filed by Anber Zulfiqar, the abductee’s wife seeking the recovery of Zulfiqar Ahmed. The court issued notices to the Ministry of Interior, Sindh Home Department, Sindh’s inspector general of police, and others.
