FAISALABAD: The government of Punjab has approved a major project to start metro bus service in Faisalabad with a budget of Rs 70 billion, here on Monday.
As per the details, the initiative aims to provide affordable transport to the city’s residents, making it the first large-scale public transportation system in Faisalabad.
The Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) has completed the initial stages of planning, including a detailed survey and a comprehensive transport framework. FDA Director General Chaudhry Muhammad Asif gave these details while highlighting the importance of the project for the growing population of the city during a press briefing.
Last week, Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan chaired a meeting in Lahore to discuss the technical and administrative aspects of the project. The meeting was attended by Asian Development Bank (ADB) officials and transport experts who provided insights into the design and operation of the project.
The Metro Bus Service will cover three main routes: from Kamalpur Interchange to Samundri Road, Narwala Ada to Satiana Road, and Jhang Road to Jaranwala Road, with Red Crescent Chowk serving as a central point for all routes.
Additionally, the government has approved the introduction of 100 electric buses for the system, which will ensure an environment-friendly solution to Faisalabad’s transport needs.
