ISLAMABAD: Meta’s popular photo-sharing platform, Instagram, will soon introduce a new feature that bridges the gap with its text-based counterpart, Threads.
As per the details, the development was revealed by Alessandro Palozzi, a well-known reverse engineer who frequently reports on features coming to Meta’s social media applications.
Palozzi shared a screenshot that suggests a major change to Instagram’s commenting system. The image shows a new drop-down menu when users comment on an Instagram post. This menu will allow users to keep their comments to Instagram only or “share to threads as well.”
Meta continues to find ways to integrate its various social media platforms, with Threads being a key focus of these efforts. Previous initiatives included displaying Threads posts on Instagram and Facebook, though users were later given the option to opt out of this cross-posting feature.
Notably, while Threads does not have a direct messaging system, users can still communicate privately through Instagram’s messaging infrastructure.
However, Meta’s most ambitious plan regarding Threads is its gradual integration with FedEx, a network of decentralized social media platforms. Recent developments in this area include allowing users of Threads to see responses from FedEx users to their posts. In a recent update, this visibility has been expanded to include posts from other users.
These incremental steps suggest Meta’s commitment to position Threads as a bridge between the established social media ecosystem and the growing world of decentralized social networks.
