SIALKOT: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has asserted that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is also satisfied with the proposed constitutional amendments but has requested for a postponement till December.
Speaking to the media, Asif emphasized that the constitutional amendment draft is not secret, and claimed, “Every leader has access to the document. This is a public draft, not hidden.”
He explained that the purpose of the amendment is to ensure accountability and maintain a balance of power between institutions in the country.
He further clarified that the Judiciary still retains the power to appoint judges with five advocate judges representing each chamber.
Asif took direct aim at the PTI founder, accusing him of several wrongdoings over the years.
He remarked that the founders of PTI are central in everything and want to control all aspects of Pakistan except constitutional amendment.
Reflecting on the PTI’s four-year tenure, Asif criticized its leader for attempting a coup on May 9 and alleged that members of the military establishment were involved.
He also claimed that the PTI founder had repeatedly expressed his desire to ‘talk to the establishment’ since his arrest.
Khawaja Asif also pointed out that while politicians face accountability and legal challenges, the judiciary enjoys significant salaries and perks, yet more than 27 lakh cases are pending in courts.
