ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has granted Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) an additional 60 days to complete its intra-party elections.
A three-member commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, heard the party’s plea.
JUI-F’s lawyer explained that the elections are being held in phases, with district unit elections being the most time-consuming.
The lawyer submitted documents outlining the election schedule and requested a 60-day extension, citing delays due to ongoing constitutional reforms.
However, Chief Election Commissioner Raja questioned the need for such an extended timeframe, noting that constitutional reforms are unrelated to intra-party elections.
Moreover, he also emphasized that JUI-F’s federal territory elections are scheduled for September 29, after which no further extensions will be granted.
After considering JUI-F’s request, the ECP adjourned the hearing and granted the 60-day extension. A new hearing date will be announced later.
