LAHORE: Punjab’s free Wi-Fi initiative, championed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has reached a major milestone with over 230 locations now live across multiple cities.
The Safe City project has led this expansion, setting up free Wi-Fi access points in key urban centers.
- Lahore: 200 locations
- Sheikhupura: 15 locations
- Kasur: 10 locations
- Nankana Sahib: 5 locations
The numbers are impressive, with 7.7 million users consuming 111 terabytes of data in the past quarter. The service boasts a remarkable 98.7% availability rate, demonstrating its reliability.
As officials noted, “Citizens are finding their daily lives simplified through this free Wi-Fi service.” This expansion serves as a model for similar projects nationwide, showcasing Punjab’s commitment to digital progress.
This initiative is transforming Punjab into a digital province, positively impacting enhanced access to online resources, improving connectivity for entrepreneurs, and bridging gaps through digital communication.
The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has also set up free Wi-Fi hotspots in other districts, including Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Murree.
