ISLAMABAD: Customs authorities at Islamabad Airport have foiled a smuggling attempt, seizing over two dozen imported iPhones, including the newly launched iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The confiscated phones, worth millions of rupees, were being brought in from the UAE by a passenger from Quetta who allegedly had connections with some customs officials.
However, vigilant customs officers swiftly caught the attempt, preventing the phones from entering the market without paying duties.
This isn’t the first time customs officials have seized iPhones at Islamabad Airport. Just days ago, they confiscated more phones but didn’t register an FIR.
According to regulations, the Customs Department must register an FIR for seizures exceeding Rs. 5 million.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max’s recent launch has created a buzz in Pakistan’s market, with dealers trying to capitalize on high profit margins by dodging import duties.
Customs authorities are cracking down on such smuggling attempts to ensure devices enter the market through proper channels.
