ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is currently investigating former Prime Minister Imran Khan regarding the gifts he received during his trip to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) in May 2021.
Reports indicate that Imran Khan and his wife did not deposit the gifts into the Tokhakhana, Pakistan’s official gift repository.
As per the report obtained by ABN New, Khan received a total of 108 gifts from various countries during his tenure. Out of these 58 gifts were officially acquired from the Toshakhana. The estimated value of the gifts retained by Imran Khan is over 142 million Pakistani rupees.
Of the 58 gifts, 14 were valued at 38 million rupees, while the remaining 44 gifts, each worth 30,000 rupees or less, were kept without any payment to the Toshakhana. Notably, among the gifts was a Bulgari jewellery set, a valuable and antique collection that remains unvalued.
The Bulgari set included a bracelet, ring, earrings, and a necklace gifted to the ex-PM’s wife by Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman. The ring featured a pink diamond, and the bracelet contained several pink diamonds and other jewels.
Additionally, the necklace was adorned with exquisite pearls and pink diamonds, while the earrings showcased 18-carat diamonds and other precious stones.
The report highlights those complete details, of the retained gifts were not submitted to the Toshakhana, raising concerns about compliance with legal requirements.
The ongoing investigation aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding the acquisition and retention of these high-value gifts.
