MULTAN: Multan’s Muhammad Nawaz Shareef University of Agriculture was closed after students protested over the death of a female student who was hit by a bus, here on Tuesday.
As per the details, 21-year-old Minahil and a 5th semester student of the Department of Biochemistry of Muhammad Nawaz Shareef University of Agriculture died on Monday after being hit by a university bus coming from the opposite direction.
A large number of university students gathered outside the university and expressed their anger and raised slogans against the university administration.
In response to the protests, the University of Agriculture has been closed for two days in mourning for the dead student.
A university spokesperson confirmed the closure, expressing deep sorrow at the loss and saying the decision was made out of respect for Minahil.
The bus driver involved in the accident, identified as Aamir, has been suspended pending investigation.
The protests have intensified, demanding accountability and better security measures from the student administration.
Shah Shams Police Station House Officer (SHO) Rao Mehtab told media that he had reached the spot after the accident, adding that his bike hit the bus and fell down. As a result, she was hit by a bus and died on the spot.
The police officer said that the girl’s father had informed him that he did not want to file a complaint with the police.
The SHO said that if a formal application is submitted to the police, they will start an investigation.
When contacted, MNSUA spokesperson Riaz Hiraj said that the unfortunate accident occurred at 8:30 a.m., adding that Munahal was driving at high speed and saw the bus from the other side. Lost control.
“We have the CCTV footage of the accident. We showed it to his parents and after watching it, the father admitted that the bus driver was not at fault,” he explained.
Mr. Haraj revealed that the girl had an accident in the Kent area a month ago and sustained serious injuries on the same bike.
