LAHORE: Punjab’s tourism scene has received a significant boost with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launching five new hybrid double-decker buses to showcase Lahore’s rich history and cultural landmarks.
These eco-friendly buses will operate from Gaddafi Stadium to various tourist spots, covering iconic sites such as the Walled City Lahore, Fort Road Food Street, and Punjab Stadium. Each bus can accommodate 66 people, with 48 on the upper level and 18 on the lower level.
The double-decker bus service was initially introduced in November 2015 under former Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, with two open buses routed for guided tours of Lahore’s historic and cultural attractions.
Building on this legacy, the new buses will enhance the tourist experience, providing a unique and convenient way to explore the city’s hidden gems.
Furthermore, the service will soon expand to other major cities in Punjab, with Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi each receiving a double-decker bus, and plans are underway to introduce the service in Multan and Faisalabad.
This strategic expansion aims to promote tourism across the province, highlighting its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.
In a related development, the Punjab government is transforming 85 commerce colleges into IT institutes, addressing the growing demand for tech professionals and enhancing educational relevance. This initiative prepares students for the global IT industry, equipping them with cutting-edge skills and knowledge.
