NEW YORK: Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif has said that Indian troops established a reign of terror in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to the people of the Valley’s right to self-determination.
Addressing the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), PM Shehbaz has said that the Kashmir conflict is an important concern on the agenda of the Security Council.
The Prime Minister started the speech by saying that it is an honor for me to address the United Nations General Assembly for the second time, as the Prime Minister of the country has always been an active member of the United Nations Assembly.
He said that the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, declared that the country is committed to the resolutions of the United Nations and is unwavering on this commitment.
“Today, we are facing [the most dangerous] challenges to the global system. Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza, a dangerous conflict in Ukraine, devastating conflicts in Africa and Asia, growing geopolitical tensions, resurgence of terrorism, rising poverty, crushing debt, and increasing impacts of climate change.
PM Shehbaz Sharif also called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, calling it a “systematic massacre” and “bloodshed” by the Israeli army.
“This is not just a conflict; it is the systematic killing of innocent Palestinians. An attack on the very essence of human life and dignity, the blood of Gaza’s children stains the hands of not only the oppressors but also those involved in perpetuating this cruel conflict.”
He said humanity died when the “endless suffering” of the Palestinians was ignored.
“Condemnation is not enough… we must act now and demand an immediate end to this bloodshed. We must remember that the blood and sacrifices of innocent Palestinians will never be in vain. One should worry about difficulties and stand with them.
