RAWALPINDI: The government of Punjab has imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called for peaceful protest in the city on Saturday.
As per the details, Section 144 has been implemented for two days, which will be applied on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29.
Rangers have also been deployed to ensure law and order. The notification of their appointment has been sent to the federal government.
The notification states that all kinds of political gatherings including dharnas, rallies, demonstrations, protests and similar activities are prohibited. Section 144 will also apply to possession and display of arms in Rawalpindi Division.
Concerns have been expressed about the possible arrival of armed miscreants in Rawalpindi, as indicated in the notification.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has canceled the rally scheduled for Friday in Rawalpindi city on the instructions of party founder Imran Khan.
“On instructions of founding Chairman PTI, Imran Khan, the Rawalpindi Jalsa on Sept 28th is cancelled and there will be a peaceful protest instead,” the PTI party said in a statement on Thursday. “More details will be shared soon.”
