RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi police have booked Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur under terrorism charges over a Saturday protest in Rawalpindi.
Police have registered three new cases against the former prime minister under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) for inciting party workers against institutions from jail.
Rawalpindi police have also nominated 45 PTI leaders and workers including Ali Amin Gandapur in the cases registered after PTI’s Liaquat Bagh protest call.
FIR was registered at the New Town Police Station under the complaint lodged by Sub-Inspector Umar Siddique. The FIR included the charges of attempted murder, terrorism, and violations of Section 144.
Accusations of vandalism, arson, rioting, stone-pelting, and a petrol bomb attack on a government vehicle were also cited.
Apart from this, more cases have been registered in 4 police stations of Rawalpindi against PTI leaders under terrorism charges. More than 100 workers and party leaders have been named in these cases, including Samabiya Tahir, MPA Asad Abbas, Ijaz Khan, and Aamir Mughal.
According to the police complaint, PTI activists shouted anti-government slogans, pelted stones, and attacked police personnel with iron rods, causing heavy damage to police vehicles and buses. A policeman’s eye was injured by a glass while the accused snatched the government weapon and opened fire.
