KARACHI: A retired army major, Ahmed Waseem, was kidnapped from the Defence Housing Authority’s Bilal Masjid parking lot on Saturday at 12:25 pm by three individuals in a white car.
However, he was freed 14 hours later in North Nazimabad. According to DIG-South Syed Asad Raza, the kidnapping was orchestrated by Waseem’s nephew, Muhammad Noorul Ain Qazi, who had a previous criminal record and was released from prison a few months ago.
A joint team of police, the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee, and an intelligence agency traced Qazi’s location to Nazimabad-3, but he and his wife had already escaped by the time they arrived.
Shortly after, the kidnappers released Waseem, they then contacted his family with the help of a taxi driver and reunited with them at Hyderi Market police station.
Although no suspects have been arrested, a case was registered at the Gizri police station under sections 365 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
DIG Raza noted that Waseem did not suffer physical harm but endured mental stress during his captivity, with his hands being tied for 14 hours.
In another incident, unidentified assailants killed Muhammad Naman, the son of DSP Tank Haji Syed Marjan Khan, a local police officer, in a tragic incident in Dera Ismail Khan.
Naman’s body was discovered in Abdulkhel village, a remote hilly area, within the jurisdiction of Shaheed Nawab Khan police station.
According to local police, Naman suffered multiple gunshot wounds before his body was discarded in the fields. Authorities have recovered the body and initiated an investigation into the murder.
The case is currently under inquiry, and further details regarding the circumstances surrounding Naman’s death and potential suspects are yet to be disclosed.
