ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information has approved coverage of the country’s general elections on February 8, 2024, for over 100 international journalists and twenty-four media outlets.

In a statement, the ministry said that about 136 reporters from 24 different media outlets had expressed interest in covering Pakistan’s upcoming elections.

Major foreign news outlets, including the BBC, Al-Jazeera, Nikkei, AFP, AP, IRIB, VOA, AKB, CNN, Kyodo, Washington Post, Arab News, Independent Urdu, NHK, and Deutsche Welle, among others.

The ministry has requested that the Pakistani Election Commission prepare for the foreign journalists’ access to accreditation cards and badges, as well as make all necessary arrangements for them to carry out their jobs.

It is important to note that the application deadline for international journalists seeking an election coverage permit was January 20, 2024.

According to sources, up to 200,000 press accreditation cards were created by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in order to facilitate press coverage of the general election in 2024.

In the meantime, it’s possible that delegates from the Commonwealth and the European Union would travel to Pakistan to watch the general elections.
