ISLAMABAD: The Red Zone in Islamabad has been sealed off once again in anticipation of a protest by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, with containers blocking roads leading to the area, except for Margalla Road, which remains open.
This move has caused significant disruptions, particularly during morning rush hour, as citizens heading to work and school faced difficulties navigating the roads. Containers have also been placed at Faizabad on the Express Highway, resulting in long queues of vehicles.
Despite these restrictions, PTI’s leadership remains resolute in their plans to proceed with rallies across Punjab as scheduled.
Former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan has issued a call for nationwide protests, urging supporters to stand up for the judiciary’s independence by joining rallies in various cities, including Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, and a major power show at D-Chowk in Islamabad this Friday.
To maintain law and order, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) authorities have enforced Section 144 and the Peaceful Assembly Act, prohibiting gatherings and processions in restricted areas.
The high-security zone, red zone, and surrounding areas have been designated as restricted, with strict enforcement of the law. The ICT Police have reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding citizens’ lives and property, warning that anyone involved in illegal activities will be held accountable.
Earlier, The Punjab administration imposed section 144 in several cities including Mianwali, Faisalabad, and Bahawalpur restricting any public gatherings til October 07, 2024, ahead of PTI rallies.
