LAHORE: The Punjab government has taken a significant step to maintain law and order in Lahore by imposing Section 144, effectively banning all political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, and protests for six days, from October 3 to October 8.
This decision aims to protect lives and property, as public gatherings are considered potential soft targets for terrorists. The Punjab Home Department issued the official notification, citing concerns over security threats.
This move comes ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned protest in Lahore this Saturday, indicating the government’s efforts to prevent potential unrest.
Similarly, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) authorities have also enforced Section 144 and the Peaceful Assembly Act, prohibiting gatherings and processions in restricted areas, including high-security zones and red zones.
The ICT Police have reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding citizens’ lives and property, warning that anyone involved in illegal activities will face consequences. Citizens are advised to avoid participating in unlawful gatherings, ensuring a secure environment for all.
By imposing these restrictions, the government seeks to maintain public safety and prevent potential security breaches.
Earlier, The Punjab government took swift action to maintain law and order in Faisalabad and Bahawalpur by imposing Section 144 for two days, starting from October 2 to October 3 ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) power show.
This ban prohibits all forms of political gatherings, sit-ins, public meetings, demonstrations, protests, and similar activities in the cities to ensure public safety.
