KARACHI: A staggering rise in street crime has brought Karachi to its knees, with almost 100 deaths resulting from muggings in the first nine months of this year alone.
The Citizen Police Liaison Committee has released alarming statistics for the first nine months of the year.
During this month, 15,000 mobile phone theft incidents took place while motorcycle theft incidents reached 35,000.
Additionally, approximately 1,200 vehicles have been stolen or taken from residents.
Yesterday, a man was shot by robbers in Sarjani Sector 36 area of the city when he refused to hand over his motorcycle to them.
According to police, Faisal — the man — resisted street criminals when they opened fire on him and his brother before returning to the area.
Faisal was seriously injured by the bullet and was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
