ISLAMABAD: Internet and mobile network services have been temporarily suspended in several cities of Pakistan, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Karachi, ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest call at D-chowk Islamabad today and in Lahore scheduled on October 05. 2024.
The suspension is causing trouble communicating, as well as the daily life chores are also disrupted due to these strict measures. The citizens of the twin cities are facing problems using social media and downloading files on different mediums.
All roads linking to the Federal Capital’s entry and exit areas have been blocked, and the main roads linking to Islamabad have also been completely sealed with containers. Police personnel are deployed to Motorways and Highways in Islamabad. Motorways M1 and M2 are completely shut down.
The Islamabad police have also formed seven teams to arrest protestors, targeting local activists and those traveling to Islamabad for the protest.
Each team will consist of 15-17 policemen and officers, led by Superintendents of Police and sub-inspector rank officers.
A two-day ban on pillion riding on motorcycles has also been imposed in Islamabad. Under these new restrictions, no more than one person can travel on a bike in the city.
The district administration decided to maintain law and order in the city. Strict legal action will be taken against those who violate the ban.
Moreover, The Metrobus service operating in the twin cities (Islamabad and Rawalpindi) will also remain completely suspended today. The service from Rawalpindi’s main station to the Pakistan Secretariat will be closed.
In addition, the Punjab govt has imposed Section 144 which will remain effective from October 4 to October 6 in Rawalpindi, Attock, and Sargodha. These measures are aimed at preventing potential clashes and ensuring public safety during the PTI protest
