ISLAMABAD: After remaining in an incommunicado situation in the twin cities, mobile and internet service was restored on Sunday along with the opening of the major thoroughfare in Rawalpindi as the PTI protest entered the third day at D-Chowk.
Cellular network service was suspended in the twin cities in the wake of the deteriorating law and order situation as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged a demonstration in Islamabad’s D-Chowk, facing police resistance, including roadblocks and tear gas.
As services resume, the federal capital is returning to normalcy, though the recurring shutdowns remain a point of contention for many.
Moreover, roads previously blocked by containers are starting to reopen in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The city’s main thoroughfares, including the Blue Area and Jinnah Avenue, are now clear, allowing for the smooth flow of traffic.
Moreover, Rawalpindi’s deputy commissioner has confirmed that all barricades and roadblocks have been removed from the Murree Road, restoring traffic flow. Both tracks of Murree Road and nearby thoroughfares are now open, with the remaining obstacles being cleared.
However, the Murree Road at Faizabad remains closed, pending authorization from the Islamabad administration to reopen.
