ISLAMABAD: The Lahore-Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M2, M1) has reopened for traffic after a two-day closure due to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk.
Authorities blocked motorways connecting Islamabad with Lahore and Peshawar as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order which caused severe problems for daily commuters.
The major interchanges including Balkasar Interchange at M-2 Motoway, Chakri Interchange, Neelah Dullah Interchange, and Bhera Interchange are now fully operational and open for commuters.
According to officials, the decision to reopen the motorway was made after the Islamabad High Court’s orders to restore normalcy in the city. The removal of containers and barricades from the motorway has ensured smooth traffic flow.
Other roads in Islamabad, including Murree Road and Double Road, have also been cleared, while 9th Avenue remains closed. Mobile phone services, which were suspended, have been restored.
Moreover, the Grand Trunk (GT) Road, connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Punjab, has been reopened after a two-day closure.

The reopening of the motorway has brought relief to commuters and residents, who faced inconvenience due to the closure. The government has assured that measures are in place to maintain peace and order in the city.
