KARACHI: Pakistan’s famous actress Yashma Gill asked a question during a meeting with the renowned international scholar Dr. Zakir Naik at Governor’s House in Karachi.
Dr. Naik, who is currently on a visit to Pakistan, delivered a lecture to a large audience at the Sindh Governor’s House on the evening of October 5.
The lecture entitled “What is the purpose of our lives?” This was followed by a question-and-answer session.
Before asking her question, Yashma Gill shared that she had strayed from Islam but returned to the faith after listening to Dr. Naik’s teachings.
Yashma Gill’s first question to Dr. Naik was about free will in the context of predestination: “If God has already written our destiny, what power do we have to choose?” He explained by asking who is responsible if a person does right or wrong, since destiny is predestined.
In response, Dr. Naik explained that God knows the unseen future. He knows what actions a person will do, whether good or bad.
He clarified that humans do not do what God has written in their destiny. Rather, God writes what man will do, because God knows what man will choose.
Dr. Naik explained this with the example of a person standing at a four-way intersection. God writes in a person’s destiny the path that person chooses at that moment based on his own decision—the path that was chosen not by God but by the person himself.
