ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has appointed Abu Bakar as the new CEO of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), filling a leadership void that lasted over two years.
The Ministry of IT and Telecom has issued an official offer letter, confirming Abu Bakar’s appointment for a three-year term.
Abu Bakar, a seasoned executive with 20+ years of experience in technology and business operations, is currently president of Open Global Pakistan. His expertise includes digital transformation, mergers and acquisitions, and business process improvement.
Abu Bakar’s appointment follows a rigorous recruitment process. Out of 234 applications, 16 candidates were shortlisted, and six were presented for final consideration during the 59th PSEB Board of Directors meeting.
In addition, his selection comes at a critical time for PSEB, aiming to enhance Pakistan’s software export capabilities.
As CEO, Abu Bakar’s tenure is expected to boost PSEB’s strategic growth and Pakistan’s IT sector’s digital transformation. His background in operational leadership, M&A, and digital innovation will be invaluable.
This appointment marks a significant development, especially after the previous attempt to appoint Ali Raza Khan in 2023 was unsuccessful due to security clearance issues. Abu Bakar’s leadership is anticipated to bring stability and growth to PSEB.
