KARACHI: Authorities have made significant progress in investigating the recent blast near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, identifying the suicide bomber as Shah Fahad.
The terrorist Fahad had registered the vehicle used in the attack under his name on September 5, 2023. Investigators discovered that Fahad, accompanied by two accomplices, arrived in Karachi on December 3, 2023, and checked into a hotel in the Preedy area at 7:49 p.m.
He returned to Karachi on October 4, 2024, made a biometric entry at another hotel at 10:47 a.m., and checked out at noon on the day of the blast.
Fahad’s repeated stays in two hotels in the same area have provided crucial leads, helping investigators track his movements and uncover details about his network.
Authorities have geo-fenced a three-kilometer radius around the incident site and taken several individuals into custody for suspected connections to the terrorists. Investigators are actively collecting data on suspicious calls and probing how sensitive information about Chinese engineers’ movements was leaked to terrorists.
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and other law enforcement agencies have gathered evidence and initiated further actions to uncover those responsible for the attack.
Raids have been conducted across Karachi and Balochistan following the explosion on Airport Road. This incident highlights concerns about the safety and security of Chinese engineers working on mega projects in Pakistan.
