LAHORE: Tragedy struck on the M2 (Lahore- Islamabad) Motorway near Sheikhupura early Tuesday morning when a passenger bus collided with a Toyota van, resulting in the deaths of five people and injuring ten others.
According to the rescue officials, the accident occurred at Kot Abdul Malik Interchange when the speeding bus, traveling from Mansehra to Lahore, struck the van from behind.
According to Highway Police, the bus driver fell asleep at the wheel and the loose bus crashed into a tree, leading to the fatal collision. Emergency services promptly arrived at the scene, but unfortunately, five passengers succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
The other injured were rushed to the hospital in critical condition, and rescue sources warn that the death toll may rise further. Authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the incident and have informed the victims’ families.
