ISLAMABAD: To ensure security during the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference in Islamabad, authorities have ordered wedding halls, hotels, restaurants, cafes, and snooker clubs to remain closed from October 12 to 16.
Police officers have issued notices to business owners, warning of strict legal action against any violations, and have demanded surety bonds to ensure compliance.
A comprehensive security plan is in place, with additional personnel from the Pakistan Army, Rangers, FC, and Punjab police deployed to provide foolproof security for guests on the order of Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi.
Mohsin Naqvi has been overseeing the security arrangements for the SCO summit.
To make sure there is no mishap on the day of the summit, the government has announced a public holiday from October 14 to 16, in Islamabad and Rawalpindi to ensure smooth and effective conduct of the SCO conference.
The SCO conference is a significant event, bringing together influential nations including India, China, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Pakistan became a member of SCO in June 2017. From 2005 to 2017, it enjoyed the status of SCO Observer State. Pakistan’s association with SCO is relatively new, but its association with SCO Member States is longstanding, according to the Foreign Office.
