ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has unveiled a special traffic plan for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), scheduled to take place from October 14 to 16, 2024.
To ensure the effective conduct of the summit, over 585 ITP officers will be deployed to twin cities ( Islamabad – Rawalpindi) for smooth traffic flow and to guide citizens through alternative routes.
Several key roads will be closed during the summit, including Millat Road to Kashmir Chowk and Dhokri Serena Hotel, Rawal Dam Chowk to Kashmir Chowk and Serena Malpur, and Aabpara and Srinagar Highway to Serena. To mitigate disruptions, alternative routes have been designated.
For travelers from Murree and Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi, Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Park Road will serve as an alternative route.
Similarly, those traveling from Faizabad to Bhara Kahu and Murree can use Park Road, Bani Gala, and Korang Road. Other alternative routes include Chand Tara Chowk and Pak China Centre for Srinagar Highway to Murree and Bhara Kahu.
Heavy traffic from Peshawar to Lahore will be diverted to the Taxila motorway and Tarnol Railway crossing, while traffic from Lahore via GT Road to Islamabad and Rawalpindi will use Chak Beli Road to reach Chakri motorway.
Additional diversions will affect sectors F-5, G-5, G-6, and Margalla Road to Rawalpindi, Faisal Avenue to Zero Point, Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi, and Rawalpindi to Islamabad.
The route between Zero Point, Faisal Avenue, and Koral Chowk will be closed, with the service road serving as an alternative.
From October 14 to 16, 2024, heavy traffic will be restricted from entering Islamabad. Chief Traffic Officer Islamabad, Muhammad Sarfraz Virk, assures that traffic police officials will guide citizens and provide alternative routes.
