KARACHI: In Karachi on Thursday, light rain with strong winds and hailstorm occurred in different parts of the city, after which the weather became pleasant.
Karachi is in the grip of intense heat as deep clouds covered various parts of the city and rain started in few parts with hailstorm.
The areas of the port city that witnessed windy and rainy weather include Malir, North Karachi, Bafarzon, Gulshan Hadid, Gulistan Johar and Shah Faisal.
Steel Town, Gulshan-e-Maymar and Port Qasim also received rain and gale while the airport and its surrounding area received winds of 40 to 50 km per hour.
Meanwhile, the areas hit by hailstorm include Johar Block 1, Safora and its surrounding areas.
Highest rainfall was recorded at 30.5 mm at University Road, 1 mm at Jinnah Terminal and 6.2 mm at Old Airport.
After the rain, more than 150 feeders were tripped in various areas including Abul Hasan Isfahani Road, Scheme 33, North Karachi, Malir, Model Colony, Gulshan Hadid, Ahsanabad and so on.
K-Electric says that as a precautionary measure, power will be temporarily shut off in certain areas.
According to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz, clouds have formed due to the heat which may affect other areas of Karachi for half an hour and the north and northeast areas of the city may also be affected.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had earlier said that the weather in Karachi is likely to remain hot for the next four to five days.
The Meteorological Department has predicted that the temperature in the city is likely to be between 38 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
