LAHORE: The government of Punjab has imposed Section 144 in eight cities, which will be implemented immediately, here on Thursday.
According to the orders issued by the Punjab government, Section 144 will be enforced in Multan, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Vehari, Pakpattan, Okara, and Wazirabad.
It will ban all kinds of political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, demonstrations, protests and similar activities.
The spokesperson of the Punjab Home Department said that the decision to implement Section 144 was taken at the request of the concerned district administration.
The move will be in effect for three days from Thursday, October 10 to Saturday, October 12 in eight districts.
He further said that in view of security threats, any public gathering can be a soft target for terrorists, orders have been issued to maintain law and order and protect human life and property.
