ISLAMABAD: Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized that the constitutional amendment requires full consensus of all parties, here on Friday.
As per the details, Bilawal Zardari gave this statement today in the meeting of the special committee of the parliament, he said that he has been trying for a month to reach a consensus on the amendment.
Bilawal disclosed that the People’s Party has submitted its draft regarding the procedure for the establishment of the Constitutional Court and the appointment of judges in the court.
The People’s Party wants to amend Article 175 A, B, D, E and F of the Constitution.
According to the draft, it is necessary to establish a constitutional court at the federal and provincial levels. According to the amendment, the high courts will be able to hear appeals from the lower courts.
It has been proposed to establish a Constitutional Commission of Pakistan for the appointment of judges along with judges at the provincial level.
Bilawal said that we want the supremacy of all the state institutions and the parliament and reforms in the judiciary and establishment of constitutional courts are among our priorities.
JUI(F) President Moulana Fazlur Rehman also wanted the amendment with the support of the People’s Party. The chairman of People’s Party said that the opposition also presented its recommendations on the amendment.
Bilawal revealed that the Law Minister had presented the government’s draft on the constitutional amendment and claimed 2/3 majority in the parliament to pass the amendment.
Bilawal asserted that we always want to build consensus on issues like we used to do in the past.
Chairman PPP stressed that the government would exercise its constitutional right to legislate despite limited support and a tedious process.
He said that Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar held a detailed discussion with the lawyers’ organizations on the proposed amendment and the suggestions of the lawyers were also considered.
The minister announced that the discussion had cleared the air amid the confusion and another meeting of the committee would be convened tomorrow.
