ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has announced a comprehensive traffic diversion plan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit scheduled to be held on 14, 15 and 16 October 2024.
As per the details, more than 1100 traffic officers will be deployed across the city to regulate traffic flow. Citizens are advised to use alternate routes to avoid inconvenience due to road closures and diversions due to high-profile movements.
According to the ITP spokesperson, the traffic from Peshawar to Rawat will be diverted via GT Road, Taxila, Motorway, Chakri Interchange, Chak Bailey Road and Rawat. Drivers are urged to follow these routes to avoid blocked roads during the summit.
Vehicles going from Lahore to Peshawar via GT Road will be redirected towards Rawat, Chuck Bailey Road, Chakri Interchange, Motorway and Taxila. The ICT Police has advised drivers to use this alternative to ensure a smooth journey.
Traffic coming towards Rawalpindi from Margalla Road will be diverted to 9th Avenue. Additionally, traffic from Faisal Avenue to Zero Point will also be redirected to 9th Avenue, ensuring clear passage for other vehicles.
For those going to Rawalpindi from Bihara Kahu, the police have recommended to use Kuring Road, Bani Gala and Lehar Road as alternative routes. These roads will provide easy access for vehicles traveling during the summit.
Traffic coming from Rawalpindi to Islamabad will be diverted to 9th Avenue via Saddar and Murree Roads. Motorists should use these alternative roads to avoid congestion on normal roads.
Besides, traffic will be completely closed on the expressway between Zero Point and Coral Chowk. Citizens can use the service road as an alternate route to bypass the closure.
For those traveling from Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed Road to Faizabad, police have directed to use 9th Avenue from Stadium Road signal, which provides an accessible route during the event.
Heavy traffic from Peshawar to Lahore will be diverted via Taxila, Motorway, Tarnool Gate and Fateh Jang Road Interchange. Similarly, heavy traffic from Lahore to Islamabad and Rawalpindi will be diverted to Motorway via GT Road, Chuck Bailey Road and Chakri Interchange.
The spokesman further said that from October 14 to 16, all types of heavy traffic will be banned from entering Islamabad. Citizens are requested to cooperate with the traffic police and follow alternate routes to ensure smooth flow of traffic during the summit.
